The two most commonly used dial sizes in the latter half of the 18th century and throughout the 19th century were 8 and 10 inch. Next we come to the not so commonly used 6 and 12 inch dials. Anything other than these sizes is considered very rare. By complete accident we have recently acquired almost the full complement of sizes which consist of 4.5, 6, 8, 8.5, 9, 10, 12 and 13 inches as displayed below. These range in price from £925 to £4,250 and are all available to view online at <a href="http://www.british-antiqueclocks.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow nofollow" onmousedown="UntrustedLink.bootstrap($(this), "-AQGOQiWV", event, bagof({}));">www.british-antiqueclocks.com and at our large showrooms in Cherhill, Wiltshire. All are fully restored and in full working order.

It’s difficult to know whether these unusual sizes were by accident, made to order or simply experiments. For example the 4.5 inch dials (the smallest shown here) may have been made as apprentice pieces and the larger dials such as the 13inch (the largest shown) could have been made as a sheer statement or simply because the dial could be read in a much clearer way.

One thing is clear though, they are still as useful and unique as they were up to 200 years ago when they were first made.

Facebook Post: - Latest news - The arrival of our Anysworth Thwaites of London longcase clock -...

- Latest news - The arrival of our Anysworth Thwaites of London longcase clock - Now available to view online - http://www.british-antiqueclocks.com/stock/aynsworth-thwaites-london/

- Latest news - The arrival of our Anysworth Thwaites of London longcase clock - Now available to view online - <a href="http://www.british-antiqueclocks.com/stock/aynsworth-thwaites-london/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow nofollow" onmousedown="UntrustedLink.bootstrap($(this), "dAQF544ll", event, bagof({}));">http://www.british-antiqueclocks.com/stock/aynsworth-thwaites-london/
