Elegant Mahogany Grandfather Clock by Haddack of Bath....
An excellent West Country mahogany longcase clock from the famous City of Bath.
The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and with an arched plain white dial displaying a Roman chapter ring, quarter minutes, seconds, date, and the makers name signed to the arch surrounded by an oval of gilt acorns.
The superb flame mahogany veneered cabinetwork has extensive boxwood, ebony inlay and ebonised mouldings throughout and the trunk door is flanked by canted corners. The hood displays ebonised reeded pillars to the sides terminating with brass Doric capitals and with a solid crested pediment with three brass finials. The base with similar veneers and inlay and typical bracket feet to the front elevation.
Note: William Haddack is listed as Watch & Chronometer maker and was working at Pultney Bridge during the first quarter of the 19th century. From 1800-1822 he maintained the clock of Bath Abbey.
