James Thristle - Williton

An excellent Somerset longcase clock with Ship automata.

The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with white dial showing both seconds and date. The corners painted with flowers and foliage and the arch with a seascape and rocking ship automata.

The mahogany case with good flame veneer and boxwood and ebony inlay. The hood with brass capped reeded pillars and swan neck top with brass finial.

Note: Early in the 19th century James Thristle of Williton supplied the clock at the Shire Hall, Taunton. He was born in 1802 and on the marriage moved from Stogursey to Williton. He died in 1877.
