London Longcase Clock by John Brock
An excellent round dial London mahogany longcase clock.
The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and with a round painted dial showing seconds, date, matching blued steel hands and signed J. Brock, 16 George Street, Portman Square, London. The exceptional mahogany veneered case with well chosen flame veneer throughout the front elevation and with canted corners to both the hood and trunk. The trunk also with a long door and terminating to a single plinth base with applied bead moulding. The hood with a lockable glazed brass bezel, further bead mouldings, brass sound frets to both sides and a plain broken arch top.
Note: John Brock is listed as working in the early part of the 19th century at George Street, London. From records it appears his son James Brock was an accomplished maker and served part of his apprenticeship with the famous Dent family. He was also involved in the making of the movement of Big Ben as it is more commonly called.
