A large number of Scottish Longcase Clocks are of pleasing small proportions which fits in well with our modern homes. There was a large Clockmaking community throughout the whole of Scotland but the earlier examples from 1680-1730 are certainly rarer than their English counterparts.

We have found over the years that the round dial cases from the Edinburgh area are particularly popular for their clean lines and high quality veneers. The Scottish Clockmakers appear to have had their very own case designs and dial makers. Even their weights were cast using a flattened mould to allow more room in the case.

Several notable styles always found in Scotland are the carved Acanthus leaf to the cases in Aberdeen, the small and well proportioned swan neck topped Montrose clocks, the typical Edinburgh style swan neck with Satinwood frets and the Drumhead Longcase Clock which was used on both the West and East side of the Country.
