Vulliamy - London

A rare round dial mahogany longcase by this well known clockmaking family.

The substantial 8 day duration movement with large and unusual double knopped pillars, anchor escapement and striking the hours on a bell. The original 12" round painted white dial with Roman numerals, seconds and blued steel hands of heavy construction. The pendulum with brass flat rod and large brass bob. The mahogany case of small size with high quality flame veneers to the trunk door and base. The door flanked by reeded brass capped columns. The broken arch top hood with brass glazed bezel and three heavy brass round finials.

Note: Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy was the last of the long line of Vulliamy Clockmakers. He was born in 1780 and worked with his Father at 68 Pall Mall towards the end of the 18th century. He received the Freedom of the Clockmakers Company in December 1809 and became Liveryman in January 1810. He was Master for a total of five times in 1821, 1823, 1825, 1827 and 1847. He continued with the Royal Patronage and was clockmaker to King George IV, King William IV and Queen Victoria. He died in 1854.
